The Little Mermaid

Hi everybody!!! Well, last monday, I saw the movie of Walt Disney 'The Little Mermaid' with my cousins, most of girls thinks that is a beautiful story, really a fairy tale, but, the true story was written by Hans Christian Andersen, and is about a young mermaid who want to be human because she was in love of a human prince.
In the story the little mermaid visits the Sea Witch, who sells her a potion that gives her legs, in exchange for her voice. Drinking the potion will make her feel as if a sword is being passed through her, yet when she recovers she will have two beautiful legs, and will be able to dance like no human has ever danced before. However, it will constantly feel like she is walking on sharp swords, and her feet will bleed most terribly. In addition, she will only get a soul if the prince loves her and marries her, for then a part of his soul will flow into her. Otherwise, at dawn on the first day after he marries another woman, the Little Mermaid will die brokenhearted and disintegrate into sea foam.
In Disney's adaptation the little mermaid had a happy ending, but in the Andersen's version she had a diferent end. I recommend you to read this tale, so that you'll know the original version and compare that with other adaptations.

Really?? Wow, that's a cool story. It reminds me of Pinocchio, in that the story is completely different from the Disney adaptation. Actually, in the book you can't help but hate the stupid doll, for all the bad things he makes poor Gepetto go through. i also have heard about the "real" versions of Hansel & Gretel, and of Little Red Hood. All of them, much more sinister than the ones people tell children nowadays. All this makes you wanna do a little more research on the subject, doesn't it?
