Who doesn't know her?
I remember the first time I saw some Frida's paintings, I didn't like them because she seemed to have been a narcissistic person due to several of her work, they are self-portraits. It wasn't until I watched a documentary of her life that I became interested in knowing something else about her.
Frida's lifetime was brief and quite painful. As she was a teenager she had a tragic bus accident, she had serious injuries in her body because of this she never had children. At the time she spent over a year in bed in order to recover from the accident. Meanwhile she started to paint. After a time she met Diego Rivera and they got married. She fell in love with him deeply.
The thruth is that she was a brilliant woman who knew how to deal with her both pains: physical and emotional as she said: "SUFRI DOS GRANDES ACCIDENTES EN MI VIDA... UNO EN EL CUAL UN TRANVIA ME ARROLLO Y EL NDO FUE DIEGO".
(I dared write this in Spanish so that readers can feel the amazing Frida's way of writing).
Sometimes it was asked Frida why she painted to herself which she answered: "PORQUE ESTOY SOLA TAN A MENUDO, PORQUE SOY LA PERSONA QUE CONOZCO MEJOR".
Another bad fact in Frida's life was when she had her leg cut and every time she was worst but it wasn't a reason to be feel down, so she write this: "PIES PARA QUE LOS QUIERO, SI TENGO ALAS PA' VOLAR".
Actually, Frida Kahlo wasn't recognized as a famous painter when she alive; a few months before her death there was a Frida's paintings exhibition at Palacio de Bellas Artes, the same place where two years ago was celebrated 100 years of her birth. The most well-known paintings were on showed there as: The Two Fridas, Henry Ford Hospital, A few small nips, etc. Also many notes and letters written by Frida for Diego Rivera.
I'm sure the people who had the opportunity to go. They were shoked like I was. Believe me, it was really unforgettable!!
"ESPERO ALEGRE LA SALIDA Y ESPERO NO VOLVER JAMAS"
FRIDA KAHLO
1907-1954
